I'm watching "The Pursuit of Happyness." I remembered that Glide United Methodist Church was the site of the homeless shelter features in the movie. I searched my email and found the following from the January 19, 2007 edition of Newscope, published by the United Methodist News Service:
Chris Gardner, a member of Glide Memorial UMC, is the inspiration behind the movie The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith playing the role of Gardner. The movie about the once homeless man who now runs his own financial firm also features the church, whose shelter Gardner stayed in, and its now retired pastor Cecil Williams.
